Beat the Back to School Blues

Today was my first day back in the classroom. What was the highlight you ask? My new rainbow colored Sharpies. There is just something about a new pack of Sharpies that pleases me. Teachers get very protective of their Sharpies, at least the teachers I know. You use them and then you hide them. You never know who is going to sneak into your classroom after you leave for the day.....
In honor of the Back to School Blues, I think that a give away is in order. A little pick-me-up to get the school year started off on the right foot! So, leave me a comment telling me what's the highlight of beginning the new school year for you? The break from the kids? A fresh pack of paper? Switching from iced coffee to hot? I want to know! On Friday, I will pick a winner at random. What will you win? A robin's egg blue scarflette knit with organic wool! It's soft, cozy, and I hear that it is going to be the hottest trend this fall!

The best part of the new school year for me? The new gradebook. It's empty - has possibilities. I get very excited to put all the names in perfectly.

Inevitably, it gets screwed up in week two when kids realize that my class is, well, hard and they drop. But for that first week? It's a gem.

Awww...now I get it :) The highlight of the beginning of the school year this year for me is seeing my son walking out of the door in his new outfit and new backpack. I remember being busy and suddenly looked up and saw him...and realized how much he has grown. He's no longer that little boy I need to walk to the classroom any longer. He is in 3rd grade now and totally independent. Somehow I managed not to cry...which was good. I could see him rolling his eyes at me if I did...lol

The highlight of the beginning of the school year is the first day of school pictures. My boys are in HS and I still take their picture before they leave for school on the first day. One day, they'll love them (I hope!).

The highlight for me (as you know) is everyone and everything being back on schedule. The go with the flow of summer is fun for awhile, but fall is my favorite time of year, both because of the weather, and because of things happening when, where, and how they should.

We live in a college town and I love when the new students move into their housing in sept. And I hear them in the grocery store asking their new roommates what brand of bread or punt butter or cereal they prefer. I love that feeling of new beginnings, new friendships.

In college, at the start of every semester (especially fall), I'd go out and buy a pack of mechanical pencils. That, to me, always signified the official beginning of the school year! I also always enjoyed looking up where the classrooms were and getting geared up for that first morning of school!

the new school year and my oldest daughter's birthday always coincide. a new year in two ways for her. and i admit, if left to my own devices i will purchase far too many school supplies for any one family. i also find great satisfaction in a freshly sharpened pencil and a crisp, clean composition book.

The highlight for me is watching my kiddo climb the stairs onto the bus with her backpack. It's such a poignant moment. : )

The best part is being able to go to the beach during the day and have all the children gone! :D

what a beautiful scarf! but i'm not quite in fall/cool weather mode yet! it is still too darn hot when i live, so it's iced coffee and tank tops for a few more weeks.
and i completely agree about hiding favorite materials. mine is new dry erase markers. :)
thanks for the giveaway.

Best part is when I get to have time to work out and not feel guilty about me time (reading, etc.)

The best thing about back to school is the sales in stores after school gets started. Pencils, sharpies and all kinds of art supplies for super cheap! :)

Amongst the educators I know, the proper response when someone picks up a stray sharpie and asks, "Whose sharpie is this?" is always "Mine."

If one finds a stray sharpie, those in the know don't ask, "Whose sharpie is this?" - They simply say "Oh, there's my sharpie."
